Frequently Asked Questions

HOW DO I CONTACT YOU FOR REPRESENTATION?

Please see our Representation page for full details on how to apply.

ARE YOU A SOLE AGENCY?

Yes. We are a sole agency, which means you cannot be represented by another agent.

WHEN WILL I KNOW IF MY APPLICATION HAS BEEN SUCCESSFUL?

We will respond to all agency applications within two weeks via email. Should we wish to offer representation we will arrange a face-to-face meeting.

YOUR APPLICATION HAS BEEN SUCCESSFUL, NOW WHAT?

We will send out a contract to you, which includes all our terms and conditions.

We will also create your account on Tagmin, which we expect the artist or parents/guardians to update with their personal details, skills, training, holiday dates and any other unavailability. The agency will guide you through how to use this program.

WHAT IS TAGMIN?

Talent agents use Tagmin to tag together all their admin – streamlining their workflow and linking their world – their talent and contacts – and the projects that connect them.

ARE THERE ANY FEES TO JOIN THE AGENCY?

We DO NOT charge any fees to join our agency.

We do require our artists to have up to date headshots. These can be arranged through us at a discounted rate; however, this is optional.

We also require our clients to be members of Spotlight. Annual membership for young performers currently costs £114. For performers it begins at around £172.50 per year.

WHAT IS SPOTLIGHT?

Spotlight connects performers with roles in theatre, television and film productions around the world. Casting professionals choose Spotlight to cast their projects because performers on Spotlight are recognised as the industry’s best.

WHAT DO WE EXPECT FROM THE ARTISTS WHO SIGN TO OUR AGENCY?

We expect any artists/ parents or guardians who sign with May Talent to keep their personal details updated on Tagmin.

On the 1st of each month, these details will need to be checked and updated accordingly. These include height, measurements, availability, headshots, passport details and skills.

We expect artists to attend auditions on time, giving plenty of notice if for any reason they are unable to attend.

We expect artists/ parents or guardians to update their availability on Tagmin.

If we find we are continually chasing for details to be updated or not being informed of unavailability we reserve the right to terminate your contract with us.

Communication is a fundamental principle within our agency, and we therefore expect our artists and parents/guardians to inform us asap should they not be able to attend an audition for any reason.

We expect artists and parents/guardians/chaperones to behave professionally when attending an audition or working on a job.

WHAT DO YOU DO AS MY AGENT?

May Talent will actively search for upcoming roles/jobs, which we feel you will be suitable for and submit your details to the casting director/producer/director so you can be considered for the role and asked to audition.

Being submitted for a role does not guarantee you an audition, but if you are asked to audition then this could be done face to face, online or via self-tape.

As your agent, we will confirm the audition details including location, date and times as well as any material to be prepared.

WHAT HAPPENS AFTER I AUDITION?

You may be contacted for a recall. A recall is when the artist is invited back to audition again.

You may then be ‘pencilled’. This is when the artist is put on ‘pencil’ after the audition and has been shortlisted for the role. At this stage you cannot take on any other work until it’s confirmed you've got the job or you have been released from pencil. If you are released this unfortunately means you have not got the role/job this time.

WHAT HAPPENS IF I GET THE JOB?

Following a big congratulations from us at May Talent, we would then check through all the details of the job, negotiate contracts and send these over to you / your parents or guardians to read and sign.

Under The Children (Performances and Activities) (England) Regulations 2014, all children in year 11 and below, even babies, need to obtain a child performers license from their local authority. These are obtained from the local council and can take up to 21 days to process although most local authorities require at least seven working days notice. The agency will arrange this and provide forms to fill in.

You may be required to go to a costume fitting prior to the job.

Artists should not alter their appearance in any way prior to the job, this includes hair cuts.

Prior to the job beginning, you will receive further information from us including locations, call times, transport and any other information. These can sometimes change at short notice, so we will need confirmation that you have received the information from us.

HOW WILL I GET PAID?

We will transfer the funds within 10 working days from when the client pays us. This will be done via BACS transfer.

You will be paid the total monies to you/your child less our commission fee, which are as follows:

Theatre 10% Commission

TV, Film, Radio & Voiceover 15% Commission (Including repeats)

Commercials 18% Commission (Including repeats)
